I’ve listed the GY!BE San Francisco and OM Europe prints for sale for this week only.

*Please note: The web shop will be disabled on Saturday April 28th because I’ll be traveling for two weeks.
Orders received before Saturday will be sent before I leave.

I do not expect to run out of either print before my trip, so I will resume selling the remaining copies in mid May.

They are going to play five nights at Great American Music Hall (my favorite San Francisco venue) and one special night amongst the redwoods at the Fernwood Resort in Big Sur.
I’m headed down to California for all six shows and could not be more excited.
Working with Godspeed You! Black Emperor is akin to illustrating an epic film or novel. I tend to think “big” or maybe more macro than my norm. Filmic or vaguely narrative notions come about in my sketches. In this case, the band requested the words “Don’t bend, Ascend”. I found it to be a fantastic launching off point.
The composition leans towards (at least in my head) a classical look. I hope it evokes a vaguely Symbolist feeling, pieces such as Schwabe’s “Virgin of the Lillies” being an unconscious touchstone. The lantern illuminates, the serpent’s presence looms, though firmly gripped in the talons of the hawk, and the valley (or redwoods) offers a path to….somewhere. The dress pattern is a subtle reference to my Godspeed poster from 2011, as it was the curtain pattern in the second printing.
I really pushed my technical skills with the color separations here. Printing next week with the amazing Andrew Crawshaw of Broken Press, Seattle. I’ve warned him that it’s going to be a nail-biter, knowing full well that he is always up for a challenge.
The band and I talked about doing an alternate version for the Fernwood show. My solution was to swap out the background, as seen in the variant below. At this point (pre-printing) the blackline and paper are the only variables, though we may alter the colors if inspired to do so.

Andy Crawshaw of 112 Printworks and I spent the weekend (and then some) printing my poster for OM’s upcoming european tour.

6 colors. With overprinting and one split fountain, I believe we created about 10 colors. 14×24″ on Canyon Brown.

Edition of 300. I have a short stack to sell via my site after the tour is complete. I may do a different colorway for US dates later this summer, though I cannot say for certain.

Above is a preliminary sketch. It’s an image that I’ve been trying to get down on paper for some time. It relates directly to Om, perception, ego, seeing and non-attachment.
